Cheap Ford Price

My son has a vehicle he wants to sell. He wants to sell his cheap Ford truck quickly so he can get enough for a down payment on a newer car. He wants to price it as reasonable as possible, but also wants to be sure he gets enough for a down payment. It is a 1998 Ford Ranger and he plans on asking $1800 for it. I told him I thought he might be able to get a little more since this truck is in almost mint condition. What would be a fair price for this truck to ensure he gets a quick sale, while also getting enough for his down payment?
